Bathroom Renovation Willetton

Willetton and Leeming feel like the suburbs we have renovated the most over the last 20 years. It really helps with the feel and the design of the bathroom as we can either go back and look into our records or have a feel of what bathroom options work for this area.

What We Did

It feels like strip lighting is all the rage at the moment and this bathroom is no different. This bathroom renovation, as well as bathroom renovation I am posting next in Como both, use a lot of strip lighting to make it feel Hollywood. A conversion of an ensuite and a bedroom due to our clients have had their children move out so why not make use of the space. Removing a dividing wall and extending the bathroom to make twice as big is bold but a great move. The previous bathroom was the size of the vanity and Mellissa really wanted a bigger space, a freestanding bath and walk-in shower so we did our best to accommodate both.  To create a beautiful feature wall we needed to block in the current window and employ a large skylight which I love.

Bathroom Items Did We Use

The tapware we used was from reece and is called Mizu. The bath was the Caroma Auro 1600mm x 735mm. Like a lot of our vanities lately, Bill created a custom design for our clients with a charcoal laminate fronts and jet black Caesarstone top.

Star of the Room

The star of the room for me is the feature wall. So much time and effort went into the design, redesigning, tiling and fitting of this wall. The window was replaced with a frosted glass with LED lighting installed at the top controlled with a remote that also controls the strip lighting under the wall hung vanity. Lastly, the charcoal stone cladding was installed to make the room feel more earthy and natural. The suburb of Willetton is very full of big parks and nature so it was important for Mel and John to incorporate that into the there bathroom.

Last Notes about the Bathroom

Be bold when renovating. Mel and John were they knew what they wanted, they knew they had space so why not make a move on that. It was 6 months of planning but i think we really nailed it together to achieve something beautiful and spacious with a lot of my favourite buzz word the wow factor.

Mind the gap: Fit IKEA MALM over a tall baseboard

I forgot one thing when I ordered the MALM dresser : The baseboards in my apartment are very tall and very wide. So, when I installed it, I had a 4 cm gap between the wall and the back of the cabinet which was not aesthetically possible for me. As it is not possible to cut the back of dresser at the bottom to leave room for the tall baseboard, I decided that MALM should be raised. And it was much simpler than I had imagined. You’ll need: A MALM dresser (mine is a 6-drawer chest) Six oak bed legs (I think five would have been enough, but while I was there …) 6 mounting plates A piece of plywood the size of the bottom of the cabinet (I went to the hardware store next door, it cost me less than 5€) Screws White adhesive edging tape How to raise the MALM dresser above a tall baseboard Place the MALM upside down. Fix the plywood onto the underside of the MALM with screws. Predrill holes for the leg screws (if you have the same baseboard problem as me, make sure you measur...

IKEA KALLAX Queen Storage Bed

I built this prior to knowing this website existed, this probably would have saved some contemplation. For difficulty reference, I am no carpenter (electrician actually) and I built it with my right hand in a cast. We bought an old house with original hardwood flooring from the 40s so we were very concerned about damaging it. The casters on a normal bed frame put a lot of pressure on a small surface and we didn’t want it dented or damaged if things started a rockin …. Plus, a 40′s house has virtually no storage as you only needed 3 pairs of pants back then. IKEA material : 3 x KALLAX shelf units (4) 4 x KALLAX drawer kits 8 x KALLAX fabric boxes Non-IKEA material : 4 x 2×4 A grade (saves time) 2 x 2×6 2 x sheets 1/2″ plywood (what ever grade you want) 25ft x iron-on edge trim 100 x 3″ #8 wood screws 20 x 1-1/4″ #8 wood screws satin white paint Tools (I used) : Tape measure Drill w/ 1/8″ bit for piloting holes Impact driver for screws Table saw Miter saw Ass...
